almost nothing will be able to work with current bukkit plugins properly
some community members have been attempting to make a sponge plugin to try allow for using bukkit plugins on sponge

Sponge(The Forge implementation of the Sponge API) does require forge (and forge will allow vanilla clients to connect in 1.8), that being said forge 1.8 is still in the works and so is Sponge.

Sexy design. Not bad 
I have decided to use SpigotMC together with the Carbon plugin until Sponge is working. Most of my Craftbukkit plugins works on SpigotMC.
