1.8.9 Forge Server: Failing to run SpongeForge

Hi there, I have a 1.8.9 Forge (version 1890) server running CustomNPCs, Biomes ‘O’ Plenty, Tinker’s Construct, and Cosmetic Armor Reworked. My co-owner and I have been attempting to install SpongeForge for a while now, but we get an error upon startup each time. The same mods along with SpongeForge work fine client-side, and we have no clue what is causing the issue. We are using a dedicated host to run the server, not our own machine.

You’re running an outdated build of SpongeForge - the latest is 1500 but you’re at 1402. Update sponge and see if that helps.

Both use Forge 1890 so there shouldn’t be a compatibility problem.

This is because he is running Java 8_05. You need to update to the latest Java 8.

That makes sense, although I am hosting the server on GGservers, not my own machine, so I don’t think it’s quite as simple as updating java from there. Is this something that can be solved?

Best thing you can do is to ask the host to update their version of Java.
