Anvil doesn't allow items to be offered?

So, I was trying to create an anvil GUI with an item in its first slot, but it throws null pointer exceptions when I try to get it’s children, it’s slots, or just call offer. I looked in the code of Inventory iterator, and it looks like the Lens is null… I can’t post the error log atm, since I’m on mobile, but the NPR originated in InventoryIterator:50. Is it just that Anvil isn’t fully implemented?
