I love the color coding idea, I was thinking about that, but didn’t think to mention it xD
If we decide against the color system, we could add prefixes to the names, e.g. Pro Plugin Developer. I can see that these names might be too long tho. Opinions?
Amirite? Yeah, longer names might become a problem. xD
We could add tooltips which show information about what the colors mean, e.g. “Developed 3 plugins”.
This is actually a pretty cool idea… a little tool-tip that shows their stats as a developer/server owner/etc.
Sounds like a great idea.
I would think it would be best if a person could choose what they are or have a small requirement to prove it.
The reason I say this is because I could be considered a plugin developer and a server owner.
Well, since I’m not about to become a server owner nor a plugin developer, can I at least have a Translator badge??? just joking
And what about changing the motd for validation?
Developers can be easy validated with a public plugin repo (if it gets off the ground).
But what about Contributors to the sponge project (accepted PR on github?)?
Unless the badge “Server Owner” grants any special status, it seems wisest to allow anyone to define themselves as such. It is pretty easy to set one up these days. Membership of this amorphous group of Owners may at least facilitate communication between those with differing levels of experience, and help the newer server owners get to grips with the steep learning curve.
Also, pinging servers for proof of ownership may not be a good approach - its a bit of work to validate, and probably a waste of staff time. It gets even more complicated with bungee Hubs. My own server (Yggdrasyl) isn’t usually up 24/7, but it has been around for 3 years.
As a server owner with many years experience, I prefer the title of Overlord anyway
Literally anyone can run a server. I see no point in validation.
Most noobs don’t get it public thought xD. And you can’t say a Hamachi server can be called a server? The lag … .
I just think it should only be given to those who have a reputable server… Maybe there should be a lightweight plugin that you can install on your server that you can enter your username and your partner’s if you have one and if they have an account here. Once you do that, maybe the plugin could have a check system in it that will decide whether or not the user was worthy of the tag.
The plugin idea is a good one, but its better to have it as a Sponge feature that you can enable like “Public Server List” or something else…
This is a good feature for the future, but for now, its better wait for the first release of Sponge
Just wondering, but have you made a decision on this @DarkArcana? Or have you already started on it?
I realy like the idea of badge with different levels. I would even go that far to create sections of the forum where only members of role X (and all staff, ofcorse) can talk. I hated reading how the change the block type threads in the bukkit development ressource section…
