and how do you expect that to work? Minecraft is not capable of streaming external live audio, and even if it was, there’d be literally no benefit over simply having the website open while playing Minecraft.

Yeah music in game has always been cool. I remember spigot had a way to do it which was pretty cool, and you could use world edit to change the sounds and textures in different regions.
As a forge version there was also the radio from Open Blocks, and the better records mod. I think the advantage in this case is music being played for users in different areas, as well as sound being affected by distance and such, as well as the volumes controlled from within game. But I think it’s definitely not really a sponge thing. It possibly could be worked with a mix-in, but I think a straight up forge mod would just do a better job of it.
Another idea would be to make a plugin for that site or a similar site, or even a local service hosted on the server owner’s network that could manage the sound that comes out of any browser that connects to it. in that way possibly even volume could be changed, but there would be some latency, and it would be a little weird, but yeah browsers in the background all connected to and controlled by a service either as a plugin on the server or on the machine could do some pretty neat things like changing volume based on distance or in different areas. it would be pretty messy and complicated though, although there’s a lot of open source stuff for streaming audio and such. It’s also a feature that is basically default in all browsers, just connecting to a stream is pretty easy as putting in the streams url and your browser will simply play it, but you’ll still deal with the latency.
I think it would still be a fun weekend project just to see how it turns out. As a sponge plugin it could be useful for people that really want to make in depth rpg/mmorpg servers (if mcmmo ever gets a good remake that’d be nice too). But yeah without client modification there’s no really super great way to make it.
the difference between the mods/plugins you mentioned is they where music in .ogg format there is a differece from playing a ogg file and html/url
the way .oggs are handeled is they play like if they are noteblocks but then invisible
Actually, Open blocks radio would stream from any station you set the records to, it did not save sound files mostly because of Poor selection and legal reasons. If you are talking about spigot, I don’t even have a clue their setup was really weird and I think you also needed the spigot custom client for the extra features.
Also, there always exists the option of resource packs and making them available to your users, command blocks can play audio from a resource pack i believe, so you can set it to play when a user enters an area and stuff. But again we run into the issue of availability, and users having to download it all, instead of having the audio streamed.
thats what i mean fragradio streams trough MP4 if i am correct, but if you want to make the music play like it does with an MP3 or Ipod there will be a workaround either none of us know a way of doing it or either somone was in the process of achieving it and abandoned the project due time consume
Oh, yeah vanilla won’t do that, you need forge mode to stream at all. The client can’t stream. Having a system that converts a stream into a flat file and then gives it to the user would be very expensive, and latency-ridden. I think the browser idea would be cool though.
well idk if it is possible to make the site stream to the server/client and ye 
its hard to make it plain audio instead of noteblocky still as @pie_flavor said people can always run the site or use windows media player to listen to the stream would be cool tough that you just have to start the client and login on the server which contains the same mod as the user on his client to stream as for example
stream from site → server → client or the other way around 
ideas are free to be posted and as said in my op posts if it is impossible or at least someone tried it with a lot of trial and error then gives up at least he tried
