Our work during this pandemic

"As a novel coronavirus swept the world in early 2020, thousands of software developers began working from home. Many did so on short notice, under difficult and stressful conditions.

This study investigates the effects of the pandemic on developers’ wellbeing and productivity.

A questionnaire survey was created mainly from existing, validated scales and translated into 12 languages. The data were analyzed using non-parametric inferential statistics and structural equation modeling.

The questionnaire received 2225 usable responses from 53 countries. Factor analysis supported the validity of the scales and the structural model achieved a good fit (CFI =0.961, RMSEA =0.051, SRMR =0.067). Confirmatory results include: the pandemic has had a negative effect on developers’ wellbeing and productivity; productivity and wellbeing are closely related; disaster preparedness, fear related to the pandemic, and home office ergonomics all affect wellbeing or productivity. Exploratory analysis suggests that: women, parents, and people with disabilities may be disproportionately affected; different people need different kinds of support."

Given how worse our situation is now. As a fellow software developer, don’t you think it’s too much? How do you process these in your daily life?

Focus on things that will make you productive. There’s a lot of things you can do to keep your mind away from stress at work, what’s your hobbies? Perhaps you do have something to do during your free time? Listen to relaxing songs.

I did play badminton every day as we have our own court in the backyard. But since my cousin went back to his family, I don’t have anyone to play it with. Listening to relaxing music has been my go-to this pandemic.

You have your own court? Nice.
