I’ve been hosting a server for a few years now, and it’s looking like its time for me to upgrade it to sponge.
I do have a concern though, as I was running a less… common server setup. Cauldron.
For those unaware, cauldron was essentially a bridge to make Forge and Bukkit play nice together.
Is sponge at the point where it can be installed with a high degree of stability, and be able to support forge mods?
Is upgrading to sponge hard?
I’m worried about messing things up lol, but appreciate any insight. Thank you
Well installing Sponge and it’s plugins is essentially the same as for Bukkit. There are small differences, but for someone who’s familiar with server administration, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Sponge is currently in Beta, and from what I experienced while testing, it’s quite stable.
The biggest problem with upgrading would probably be that a lot of plugin are not or not fully ported to Sponge yet. I didn’t keep too much up to date on plugin statuses, but from what I know a lot of plugins are currently in the stage of being ported and therefor not feature complete or not all that stable yet.

First: welcome! 
While many plugins haven’t been ported yet, there are tons of replacement plugins that take their place. Have a look in the Plugin Releases of this forum to see all the available plugins
As for whether the SpongeForge is stable: yes. It is actually the more stable of the two implementations, simply because it is the most used one (and therefore the most well-tested one).
Sponge also has a Documentation, which contains a treasure trove of information for both server owners and developers. That includes a guide to setting up the server, as well as a guide to migration from other server software.
If you have any problems, you can find a lot of information on the forums (the search function actually works, as opposed to many other forum softwares)! If you cannot find an answer, you can of course ask here, and we will do our best to answer you
