So... If people like my only friend that hates 1.9 PvP

Yeah… That’s kind of the point… He doesn’t like to do 1.9 PvP, Addition to that, The shields. And the problem is… I am guessing Sponge will skip to 1.9, Addition information about this problem again… Is that the beta or Stable, Latest, Recommended builds is I would take. There is a problem still, That Sponge won’t possibly backport and make stable builds for 1.8.
This is like Forge skipping to 1.9 first of all… (Only if there was a questions category…) They won’t update Forge for 1.8.1 to all the way to like 1.8.9 or 1.8.8 or 1.8.7, Whatever, I can’t keep track of that.
While my friend on skype (redacted by me) is not a huge fan on 1.9 PvP. While I have a problem with Development builds,
It’s because it will still have bugs, glitches, and errors with alot of sponge plugins that were made for 1.8 that were made for a specific version.

So, I would ask Sponge this question if they released the actual stable, recommended build of Sponge.
“Will the Sponge team backport to 1.8 to make a stable build.”
I know my brain thinks the answer will be no.
But my heart is begging for it and thinking it’s going to be a yes.

Sponge’s API is by nature designed to be as compatible as possible with other server versions (save for API revisions, of course). Plugins written for SpongeAPI 2.1 on minecraft 1.8 should work just fine on a SpongeAPI 2.1-backed 1.9 server, so you won’t have to worry about it.

If I understand what you’re saying right, anyway. Admittedly it’s a little hard to follow.

So that means there is gonna be a stable, recommended build for 1.8?

I assume it’s simply a race to see if the forge team can push out their own 1.9 builds that we can use before we ship a stable 1.8 server. I’ll have my people contact your people.

My people say a stable release will be shipped when the API is totally implemented. Whether that’s before or after 1.9, no clue. Depends on how many people get their development butts in gear. Contributions are always welcome.

Backports aren’t likely. (If 1.9 happens to ship before we do)

you know… you can use plugins.

Plugins help, but not so much to head back to old PvP before dual-wielding came in with its crap. The old sword blocking is removed too, even if you’re only using one hand. I still don’t think dual-wielding should exist in the game at all. Plugins won’t be able to completely prevent people from using two hands, won’t be able to bring back blocking with a sword (cleanly) at least, and won’t be able to get rid of anything that the client is told to render or given the power to do; plugins aren’t as powerful as anything that gets placed in the base game, whether its a mod or a minecraft update.

“Plugins won’t be able to completely prevent people from using two hands”

why not?

Honestly, that was more so an exaggeration stressing my point. It’s likely that it’ll be doable just by preventing an item entering a certain slot, though that depends on how Minecraft does it. In the sense of trying to revert to old PvP where 1.9 doesn’t dump on it, removing parts of it won’t necessarily fix it.

What exactly is different from 1.8 to 1.9 when using a sword on primary and a shield on the off-hand?

I guess we’ll be seeing 1.9 at around Christmas. We’ll See if Sponge devs are faster or not

I didn’t think shields were even released yet? Lets wait to see what it looks like before complaining

As for disliking dual wielding, being able to place blocks/water/torches with a pick in my hand would be amazing, I’ve done it with tinkers construct previously and once you have done it once you don’t want to turn back.

It’s impossible to please everyone when it comes to the combat system. That’s why an open discussion was held on reddit with thousands of opinions on how actual minecraft players would like it to be.
Mojang ultimately took the modal average of opinions.

As for updating to 1.9, Sponge will stay on 1.8 for a while, certainly until forge updates, which relies on MCP updating. I can’t say for certain, but I hope to see a stable sponge build for 1.8. I can’t remember if the sponge release system has been discussed, but IMO Sponge should keep support for the most current MC release and the one before (so 1.9 and 1.8), when the time comes.
