Is there any news regarding Sponge for minecraft 1.11? I’m guessing that SpongeVanilla will come first, and then SpongeForge a bit after Forge releases a stable version. Is there an ETA for SpongeVanilla, keeping in mind that 1.11 will presumably be released next monday (14th of Nov)? And after forge comes out with it’s first 1.11 version, how long do you exect it to take?
N.B. I’m not trying to push anyone, take as long as you need to get a great version out. We’ll be patient! Keep up the great work!
Both SV and SF depend on a piece of software called the Mod Coder Pack. When Minecraft is released, all classes, methods, variables, etc. get renamed to random letter/number combinations to make it impossible to read it, and MCP reverses that. It usually takes a little while after a new Minecraft is released for a new MCP to be released.
If I remember from State Of Sponge, the plan was to be a lot faster at getting a stable branch of 1.11 out - with 1.10 we released it as “stable”… Like a month back?
The Sponge team already have “beta” mappings of MCP, and are working to get 1.11-pre running. So once 1.11 is released, and MCP is publicly released, the changes will be merged into bleeding with the intention of getting out a stable-r build as soon as we’ve sorted out any teething issues.
Usually our ETA is “ASAP”.
Afaik the developers are already trying to get the MCP mappings done so Sponge will be trying to update as fast as possible.
Sponge devs has been waiting for the next release of MCP to be able to update Sponge; so one can bet with the preview, work on an update will be started.
Edit: wanted to clarify that while SeargeDP says MCP preview could be released as soon as tomorrow, it doesn’t mean Sponge for 1.11 could be released as soon as tomorrow. Just means efforts to update Sponge could begin as soon as tomorrow. As to when the next update of Sponge will be released, your guess is as good as any.
