Switch to Sponge?

I programmed in Spigot for a while and have started learning Sponge as well. I have seen a lot of advantages in Sponge, such as data API and Text API. But spigot has a much larger community. I don’t know if sponge will be as popular as spigot, so is sponge going to be an active project to build off of?

By no means is Sponge going to taper off and die if that’s what you mean. The community will continue to grow as people write new plugins (and port older ones) to SpongeAPI. It’s definitely gaining interest with forge server admins as it’s given the possibility for server administrators to finally protect area with mods in play (even mods who don’t really throw events or have been written with large servers in mind).

This is a good sign, because Sponge looks amazing. I could really use this a lot, especially if i made my own server.. And mod support is really cool, alongside plugins. I don’t do mods much, but is still a pretty cool feature. I hope to see great progress in Sponge!

I think Sponge will eventually supersede Spigot after beta. but that’s just my opinion. It has so much more potential, and a solid community, that doesn’t throw you in the dog house for asking questions or making friendly suggestions, and being that one of the implementations utilizes forge it makes it 100 times easier to manage a modded server, and that I can tell you from experience trying to manage a Cauldron server. I would have killed to have a project like this back then.

Yeah, mods + plugins = :grinning:
Also, if sponge wanted to make something like bungeecord for sponge, thay can call it “Spongeecord”

I maybe wrong but I think bungeecord is or will be Sponge compatible. Have to do some research

Pretty sure SpongeForge works with Bungeecord, though I’m not sure about SpongeVanilla.

I think it’s the other way around.

SpongeForge needs/needed the SpongePls addon (which is in the plugin section).

I think SpongeVanilla works without needing this, not 100% sure.

Either way, don’t want to derail the topic, just noting.
