1v1 you can’t tell the difference between a good player and a hacker if they are alone and not using reach hacks, or swinging faster then possible.

You actually can there are multiple ways to do this that have been release, we plan on cleaning those up as some of them are a bit hacky, and then using statistical analysis to really catch them better.

Kill aura will also be a smaller problem in 1.9 where weapon spamming is actually a disadvantage.

Good point! Actually extremely happy that there is more anti-cheating by design rather than through security measures.

That’s true, but I think many servers will want to revert some/all of the 1.9 combat changes (at least in their current form). Some form of killaura detecton/prevention will still probably be useful.

We could detect perfectly timed crits. Sure, the kill aura could wait a bit before hitting, but at that point there isn’t that big a difference from just doing it manually.

Depends whether the “perfectly timed” is client side or affected by lag.

If it’s client side it may just be possible to spam crits faster then actually possible, making the problem worse (but somewhat easier to detect)
