sponge mods, of couse. it runs on forge.
Which runs on Minecraft. Minecraft core mods are just called mods, too.

A bit off-topic… But what exactly would Sponge plugins be capable of?
Sponge plugins will function (almost) just like their Bukkit/Spigot/Spout counterparts, however at this point in time, they really can’t do much except for throwing a compile error or what-not.
Don’t worry, @disconsented is good at locking threads and eventually he/she will lock this one as well…

Sorry to revive this. Been lurking around for a little bit, basically I was planning a Bukkit plugin for a class project just as it was taken down, so I went with Forge instead, which I despised because of lack of documentation. So I’m following this. Take it from a heavy Googler, I’d consider at least informally naming your plugins something different. Technically they’re plugins, and that’s what I’d call them when formally referring to them. But then anyone who doesn’t exactly know what they’re looking for will search “Minecraft plugin” and get a bunch of Bukkit results. Or maybe they do search “Sponge plugin” but then it might be mixed results of both Sponge and other things relating to the sponge block in MC. So I think another informal name would be good for practical reasons, not just to sound cute. Personally, if I develop plugins, I’m going to call them something else, maybe Splugin, just for the sake of…well 1. Being lazy and not always saying Sponge plugin, and 2. So that those who catch on will be able to search for whatever I call them and get better results.
