The forge 1.8 beta supports vanilla clients
Will Sponge Team set a release date/month for the implementation as well as they did with API?
Regards
They can probably make a good estimate after they are into it pretty far.
I have heard Q1 2015 thrown around a lot
Are you not being a little bit too generous with that release date?
Givin’ how long it took both Bukkit and Forge/FML to update to the dreaded 1.7.10 ish version of minecraft.
(FYI, Forge v. 1.7.10 was released after vanilla 1.8 was).
Givin’ the above information is correct and that the pull requests are heavily monitored, I’m guessing that the absolute latest the Sponge server platform can be released is May 2015!
Any later and the Sponge project will be susceptible to being usurped by competition. And with the amount of competition that already exists, proves just how careful the Sponge team needs to be. So creating a project that has as little errors as possible at the time of release is what will determine IF competition will even be necessary.
Please do not see this as an attack. But these questions can pretty much be avoided if the Sponge team were just a little bit more vocal on what is going on with the software.
Doesn’t put a lot of “faith” in the community.
I think you’re reading too much into their post, considering they said they “heard” it. At the very least, Sponge doesn’t have to redo the massive amount of work MC updates cause for Bukkit and Forge (for the most part).
Personally, I don’t care if Sponge is late or early. I’d rather not see it rushed. I don’t plan on putting all of my eggs in one basket (i.e. just Sponge), so to me it’s zero loss as I can support Bukkit/Canary/Forge among other promising mods.
How can I “read into” when there is so little to “read into”… I’ll digress…
I agree with you completely, I hold nothing against you for your decision. However, I’ve decided to go my own route and use nothing but vanilla Command blocks.
What happened to ecs?
It’s on the back burner until Minecraft can natively utilize an ECS. While it’s easy to implement a hierarchical entity structure on an ECS, it’s virtually impossible to do the opposite given the current state of vanilla Minecraft.
Limitations still exist with an ECS such as Forge mods adding new entities that do not follow any specific format relating to an ECS.
Man this is exciting. I’m extremely happy to see that you guys are making so much progress in getting a good API out here to us. I am as excited as ever to get my server back up and running and it’s all thanks to you guys. The effort this community is putting into rectifying something that was so dear to us all, it’s astonishing.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you guys for all your dedication… You truly are the real heart of Minecraft

I know how frustrating it is to be asked for ETAs, but… Do you guys think that the server version could be released before this or the next month ends?
Either way, thank you guys so much for all the work you have done :3
Nope and you just delay it another month
Just hope Mojang and Microsoft doesn’t rush the updates that we have to go like up to 1.9 or something like that.
I’m just like you, only I’ve been counting the day’s until the official release. And just like @disconsented said, for every question on the ETA, the project gets delayed by another month, with all of the other ETA questions (including your’s) on these forum’s this bring’s the official release date to August 15 2015. ![]()
I see then
Thanks, I guess?
I honestly don’t get it. Spigot 1.8 is out there, CraftBukkit 1.8 is too, none of them break the GPL(afaik), and they provide an easier migration path than Sponge. So why the rush? I understand Sponge is an awesome project and it will probably be better than the alternatives that exist today but we are no longer in a position where Sponge is the only alternative to being stuck in 1.7.10.
Be patient and let the developers develop.
I may decide to start porting. Hype level for sponge API being out over 12,347,891,564,385. I plan to begin making original plugins again! P.S. Will sponge plugins be affiliated with curse? Because I lost my free developer curse premium D:
I can’t wait for the server to come out! so i can become 1.8 on my server
I created a small plugin using a gradlew build of 1.1 from about a week ago. I loved creating a small sample plugin sooo much! This felt smoother, easier to use, and just as powerful as bukkit. I loved not having to use a plugin.yml, or having a whole .java file just for on enable and disable. Events came more naturally than before. I created a basic plugin that welcomes someone when they log on in about 5 mins. Overall, coding for this is WAYYY more streamlined than bukkit. I love it.
Man this is sexy
