Bardic Extrapolation (Rime of the Ancient Sponge)

An Ancient and Apocryphal Story put to verse. Damned if I can find any reference to it any more…

How to write an OS

I relate a story for skeptical ears
Of an ancient OS from Russia
Hand written by soviet engineers
Space-Race providing the pressure

Of note was their novel error cascade
Supplying the reasons for failure
Recognising computer faults they made
With Warnings increasingly Dire

The final error on their fateful list
Most worrying of all in their verse
The list of errors ended with this:
Something is Wrong with the Universe

Any tool that does the job is sufficient. A hammer, for example, can open a tin of beans.

Taken for a rIDE

Eclipse, IDEA and NetBeans
Competing in so many scenes
This band of brothers
Looms over the others
Who use Notepad++, it seems.

Sponge Floodgates have been thrown back, unleashing the Hordes of darkness keen swarm of devs upon a fledgling Git. Dance the Dance of Unleashment!

Let it Flow

Open the gates to all on Git
Let the crowd onto the ride
Pour their wit into each bit
The swelling of a PR tide

Information flowing smoother
Documentation of Sponge improved
I now predict Sponge’s future
Changelog 1.0: FLARD removed

SpongeDocs Awakens

Tidings of Joy, SpongeDocs is live!
Gaze at docs.spongepowered.org
Fed by GitHub to grow and thrive
Git PRs help fight through the fog

Neither Sponge nor Docs are finished
So we call you to rise to the test
Find where the data is diminished
And send us your best Pull Request

There’s much to be done on the pages
By those with a developer’s eye
We need to inculcate like sages
A solid grasp of the Sponge API

So bring on the queries and quibbles
Let the load be shared and spread
Many eyes will help isolate troubles
And ensure that SpongeDocs is read

Saturnalia

The season’s peak, a festival

Lawless citizens riot and revel

When and Why

Spigot fans are saying

But no-one is delaying
Sponge release 'til 1.9

Let them be compared
Isolate every problem
The issues that are aired

Celebrating a milestone, here is Sponge Poem number 100 (or 01100100 for the decimal-impaired)

Aphorism #100

One hundred days and counting
Since the birth of Sponge’s Forum
Issues keep on mounting
As we seek solutions for 'em.

One hundred compositions
Cast onto the Forum’s floor
With nearly daily editions -
Hurry up, or there will be more.

I think I’ll sum up Sponge’s Existence.
Sponge: A history
Oh, Bukkit had a Monopoly,
only competitor as far as they could see,
Was Spigot MC.
But a storm descended fast,
the crew mutinied.
The captain Wolverness
had doomed them all at sea.
Spigot went down just as quickly.

To save the desperate community,
two people had an idea, you see.
Fire the GitHub repo! Yaah!
Fire the Discourse forum! Yaah!
They - called - it - Sponge.

The rest, as they say, is history.

An ode to a midsummer morning spent banging my head against a wall…

Restart Restart

Hardware needed rearranging
The Floppy Drive estranging
New HDD added to the Bay

Cable cluster massive tangle
Fingers lost in the strangle
Feeling in the box to find my way

Finally ready for restart
I start to tear my hair apart
As it restarts again, and again, and again…

Everything was re-reconnected
The Craftbox was resurrected
Still grumbling if it was worth all the pain
