Microsoft buys Mojang

Love it, we still have so much drama and gossip going on. I for one am going back to my server to work on some projects and hang out with my players. I’d highly suggest we all do the same until further news is announced by Microsoft.

I think the people who are quitting Minecraft because Microsoft bought them are not realizing that Microsoft does not want to destroy the community and stop modding, they want to do the opposite. They want to get the current community and grow it even more by helping groups like Sponge and Forge and maybe even work on it themselves. Microsoft has the resources and workforce to make Minecraft 100 times better than it is now, even though it hard to imagine.

I also think that even though Microsoft has a long history of being extremely closed source, the new CEO Satya Nadella is changing all this. If you look at the new c# compiler, Roslyn, that is open source. Unity, Microsoft’s game framework is also open-source. This list goes on and on. Microsoft is vastly changing to become a much more open company.

Yup, one day I will list Minecraft along with those and another will say “that’s ancient, then is not now” or something like that. BTW Windows 8 is ancient?

@xylotism You are missing an important factor. Microsoft didn’t buy minecraft to monetize minecraft. They bought it for the market share. The user base. The power of that reach to 50 million+ gamers across all platforms is nearly priceless. Microsoft has a lot of ways to use minecraft for the gain, but making more money is not one of them.

I watched the This is Phil Fish video on YouTube and started to realize I didn’t have the connection to my fans I thought I had. I’ve become a symbol. I don’t want to be a symbol, responsible for something huge that I don’t understand,

This is what happens when a nerd watches Youtube (DON’T LET A NERD WATCH YOUTUBE xD)

I would rather have them open-source Minecraft but with Microsoft’s longgggg closed-source software history, this is NOT going to happen. Re-writing Minecraft in C++ would be cool as long as they actually FINISH that PROMISED Mod API and they make linux and mac builds too…

nice may may friend

Summary for everyone who just showed up:

rabble rabble

MS SUCKS BALLS

rabble rabble

OMG a proper API!

rabble rabble

M$ isn’t going to waste a crap ton of money by screwing this up.

Problem solved?

Can I propose this be the official tl;dr
Does anyone second that proposal?

Are you including the entire post? If so, yes, I second your proposal.

Yup that was the idea, so @hunterboerner seconds, motion passed.

Can you make a topic reply to this topic called tl;dr, and copy the post in question there so ppl can click on it from the top of the page. Thanks.

I want to confirm whether cpw is leaving or not. Could this mean the end of forge and/or forge support for sponge? This could have a large impact on the project if its true.

Check out #7 in the FAQ on the Forge forums. #9 is making me go hmmm.

The EULA didn’t change, and their plan to enforce it… Well, we all saw how many servers went down (0)

DId cpw really do that? Hope not. I personally just want to wait.

lol - maybe roll Minecraft as a plugin for Team Foundation Server…

It gets more and more crazy here

Yes we can but it keeps getting flagged.

Then pester the OP here to post this above his existing OP post. (Over flagging good things, and under flagging bad things; this is why we can’t have nice things ppl!)

OP here is @Silthus but he seams to have been absent since his original post

This is Microsoft’s 166th acquisition they made.
